What to Wear

Dress with intention. Let your clothing hold you.

In psychedelic therapy or ritual, what you wear can have a powerful impact—not just on your comfort, but on your mindset, emotional safety, and symbolic readiness. It’s not about fashion. It’s about presence.

Why Is Clothing Important for Psychedelic Therapy?

Clothing becomes a subtle part of your ritual container. It can:

  • Signal to your mind: “This is not just another day”

  • Anchor you to your intention

  • Help you feel safe, soft, and at ease

  • Symbolize your transformation, prayer, or surrender

  • Minimize distractions, physically and visually

The right clothing helps you forget about clothing. It softens the edges between inner and outer, allowing you to go deeper.

What Has Traditionally Been Worn for Ritual, Ceremony, and Psychedelic Experiences?

Across time and cultures, clothing in ceremonial or consciousness-expanding work has carried deep meaning. Common elements include:

  • All white attire: Symbolizing clarity, surrender, and openness (common in yogic, plant medicine, and entheogenic traditions)

  • Natural fibers: Cotton, linen, or hemp are often worn to stay grounded and connected to the earth

  • Layered garments: Shawls, scarves, and soft blankets provide both physical warmth and emotional containment

  • Culturally specific dress: In many Indigenous ceremonies, sacred clothing aligns with lineage, prayer, and spiritual roles

Clothing is a way to step across a threshold. What you wear marks the moment as sacred.

What Should I Take Into Consideration?

Before your journey, ask:

  • Will I feel physically unrestricted? (No tight waistbands, underwire, or synthetic fabrics that cling)

  • Does this outfit feel safe, warm, and cozy?

  • Can I easily add or remove layers?

  • Am I avoiding loud colors, strong patterns, or flashy jewelry that might overstimulate me?

  • Does it reflect my intention or offer personal meaning?

Pack an extra pair of socks, consider a soft eye mask, and if you're attending a group ceremony, check if there's a dress code.

The Three Levels of Clothing Options

Choose the level that matches your needs, comfort, and the energy of your journey. There’s no hierarchy—just what supports you best.

Level 1: Soft, Neutral, Simple

For a grounded and cozy experience

An all-grey or neutral-toned outfit minimizes visual stimulation and supports a calm, inward-focused state. This is perfect for solo journeys, integration days, or gentle self-care.

Suggestions:

  • Grey sweats or joggers

  • Loose t-shirt or long sleeve

  • Hoodie or soft cardigan nearby

  • Thick socks or bare feet

  • Avoid tight waistbands or underwire

This setup is humble, functional, and lets you fully relax into yourself.

Level 2: All White & Layered

For purity, openness, and gentle ritual

White is commonly worn in sacred ceremony to symbolize a blank slate—inviting presence, clarity, and newness.

Suggestions:

  • Flowy white pants or long skirt

  • White tunic, t-shirt, or button-up

  • Neutral shawl or scarf

  • Optional beanie or head covering

Even in a casual setting, wearing white can help you feel more reverent, intentional, and energetically spacious.

Level 3: Ceremonial or Spiritual Attire

For transformation, ritual, and honoring the work

For deeper journeys or group ceremonies, you may want to wear something with symbolic or ancestral resonance. This isn’t about costume—it’s about alignment.

Consider:

  • Ajjaya, One Golden Thread, or other intentional brands

  • Natural fabrics: linen, organic cotton, or hemp

  • A piece that connects to your culture, heritage, or spirituality

  • Clothing gifted to you or worn during meaningful life moments

These pieces help mark the threshold between the everyday and the sacred.

Bonus Tips

  • Layer up: Your temperature may fluctuate

  • Avoid jewelry: Especially noisy or sharp pieces

  • No strong perfume or scent: Can be overwhelming during altered states

  • Bring extras: Socks, soft blanket, or eye mask

  • Ask ahead: If you're joining a group session or ceremony, check for dress guidelines
